Salsa music—named after the colorful sauce known for its spiciness in Latin and Caribbean cuisine—actually originated in New York City during the 1960s. Salsa is most deeply associated with Cuba as many of the first salsa bands were predominantly Cubans and Puerto Ricans who relocated to New York. Evolving into a fusion of various genres such as the Cuban son montuno, guaracha, cha cha cha, and mambo; the Puerto Rican bomba and plena, as well as New York’s Latin jazz circuit, the lively genre has since become globally beloved. Though seemingly opposing senses, the sound of salsa and the taste of salsa are vividly entwined.
Since its maiden voyage in 1998, the Salsa Cruise has defined the standard for its contemporary charters, being the original live latin music experience to traverse the Caribbean and visit some of the most coveted vacation spots in the world—from Cozumel to Puerto Plata. As 2018 marks the astounding forty second voyage across the Caribbean for the Salsa Cruise, the creators found it fitting to journey to the epicenter of salsa’s rhythm in celebration of Cuba’s pristine lands and historical culture.
Warm waters, lush tropics, Cuban fare, flavorful Latin music, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience awaits! Join the SalsaFam in weaving together another piece of history. Tickets for the Salsa Cruise’s 20th Anniversary sail to Havana are now on sale with special discounts and group rates available.
