Made in Tennessee: Upper Cumberland 5-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Check in at Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Cookeville, TN.

Dinner at Salt Box Inn
Begin your visit with an extensive showcase of Upper Cumberland’s various barbeque cuisine, “wines, shine & stein”, a musical performance and a show and tell from the regional Tennessee State Parks.

Day 2

Made in Tennessee — A Taste of Tennessee (Wine, Shine & Stein

Breakfast at Poet’s Coffee
Begin your morning with some refreshing coffee and Poet’s ham & pimento bagel or avocado toast with goat cheese.

8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.   Tour and tasting at Northfield Vineyards 

The farm that Northfield Vineyards is situated on has been in the Ray family since 1904. Two Percheron bred draft mules, that are the inspiration for the wine label, can be seen lounging in the field or being worked to a wagon by their owner, Mark Ray and his dog, Sammy.

11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Tour and tasting at Happy Trails Brewing Co. 

Enjoy a Burgess Blonde or a Pickett Pale at Sparta’s up-and-coming brewery scene.

12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.   Lunch at The Coffee Collective

After a morning of tasting, have a pick-me-up coffee or tea along with a panini, moonshine BBQ sliders or BBQ chicken wrap for a reinvigorating lunch.

2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.    Tour and tasting at Jig Head Brewing Company

Relax and try a Skipjack Belgian Saison, 48 Fathom Porter and Coral Bay IPA, all signature beers of Jig Head.

3:45 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.   Tour and tasting at Tennessee Legend Distillery at Maddux Place

Located in Cookeville’s historic downtown square, this “shine-ing” sipping shop offers moonshine, whiskey, bourbon, vodka, rum and cream liqueurs.

4:40 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.   Tour and tasting at Hix Farm Brewery
A nanobrewery in Cookeville, Hix offers gravity beers, beers where more sugar turns into alcohol in comparison to other beers, while using locally sourced ingredients during the brewing process.

5:45 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.    Tour and tasting at Red Silo Brewing LLC
End a day of tasting at Cookeville’s oldest brewery with Red Silo, which has 26 beers on tap at all times of the year.

7:00 p.m.  Dinner at Father Tom’s Pub

Experience a classic pub, new age grub cuisine at Father Tom’s, with fish and chips, corned beef and chicken salad while sipping on their various assortment of scotch whiskey.

 

Day 3

Made in Tennessee — Tennessee Outdoor Adventures

Breakfast at Broast
Opening in 2014, Broast serves fresh roasted coffee from Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Guatemala and Kenya to order in the heart of Tennessee.

9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.   Demo kayaking at Rock Island State Park with Eric Jackson, Rock Island, TN 
Experience kayaking in a new light with world champion freestyle kayaker, kayak designer and founder of Jackson Kayak, Eric Jackson.

12:45 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.   Lunch at Collins River BBQMcMinnville, TN

Located in the heart of McMinnville and is a local favorite for hickory smoked ribs, barbeque nachos, pulled pork sandwiches, and smoked beef brisket.

2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.    Hike the Collins River Nature Trail
The Collins River Nature Trail is a three-mile loop along the outer edge of the Collin’s River peninsula. The trail winds beside the riverbank and gives hikers a chance to see white-tailed deer, pileated woodpeckers, Christmas ferns and a wide variety of wildflowers.

Owners Beka and Dustin Mullinax had a vision of focusing on handcrafting creative, high quality, delicious tasting foods with options like spicy Korean rice bowl, fish and chips and shrimp ‘n’ grits. The beverage menu is not lacking either, with a strong selection of craft beers and an assortment of some great tasting wines and handcrafted cocktails.

Day 4

Breakfast at Grinder House Coffee Shop, Crossvilee, TN
Have a pick-me-up coffee and bagel at one of Crossville’s finest cafes.

9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.     See Falls in the Fall at Fall Creek Falls State Park with a picnic lunch catered by Cumberland Mountain State Park, Spencer, TN

Fall Creek Falls State Park is Tennessee’s largest and most visited state park. The park encompasses more than 26,000 acres sprawled across the eastern top of the Cumberland Plateau. The Fall Creek Falls is nature at its finest, being one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States at 256 feet.

2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.    Explore Ozone Falls State Park, Crossville, TN

Ozone Falls is a 43-acre natural area in Cumberland County, with the falls plunging 110 feet over a sandstone cap rock into a deep blue, rock-strewn pool. Because of its picturesque beauty and easy access, Ozone Falls was selected for filming scenes for the 1994 movie “Jungle Book.”

5:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.    Conclude the day with the scenic Black Mountain Overlook

End your day of outdoors with a vast overlook of Cumberland County at this frequently visited overlook.

Dinner at Forte’s Restaurant
Taste some Crossville Italian dishes, like tortellini pasta or cheese ravioli, in Forte’s charming redbrick restaurant while possibly having a glass of wine.

Day 5

9:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.   Explore at Standing Stone State Park, Hilham, TN

Standing Stone has more than eight miles of hiking trails that range from easy to strenuous and weaves into virgin woods, through wildflowers and streams.

12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.   Relax and enjoy the Blues & Brews Craft Beer Festival, Cookeville, TN

Enjoy over 80 available craft beers at the 5th annual beer festival in Cookeville. Blues music will be playing during the festival with plenty of local food vendors to pick and choose from.

2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.    Explore at Edgar Evins State Park, Silver Point, TN

As you traverse through this 6,000-acre park you will notice wildlife is in abundance at Edgar Evins. Keep an eye out for three different owl species, numerous hawks and wintering bald eagles as well as the rare Cerulean Warbler.

Farewell reception Sunset Marina & Resort with dinner and tour of Dale Hollow Lake by houseboat, Monroe, TN. 

Currently celebrating its 75th anniversary, Dale Hollow Lake was built by the Army Corps of Engineers. We’ll enjoy the sunset over the lake along with a catered dinner from Sunset Marina, a Clean Marina certified facility.
